Reformer and mat Pilates in Brunswick East. Eight people in a room, a coach who knows your name, and progress you can feel by week three.

Strength is a form you practise.

01The method

Four principles, in this order.

01 · Breath

Breath

Every class opens with two minutes of breathing. Ribs wide, belly soft, a long exhale. It settles the nervous system and wakes the deep muscles that hold you up, before a single spring is loaded.

02 · Alignment

Alignment

Ribs over pelvis, pelvis over feet. Your coach adjusts by hand and by word until the line is true, because strength built on a crooked frame only makes the crookedness stronger.

03 · Control

Control

Springs give resistance and take it away again. We move slowly in both directions, so the muscle does the work and not momentum. Controlled loading is where the change comes from.

04 · Flow

Flow

Once the first three hold, movement links up. Sequences run together without the effort showing. This is where it starts to feel like yours, usually around week three.

Monday

Every class starts with two minutes of this.

Four in · one hold · six out

    03The classes

Four ways in. All of them count.

    01

    Reformer

Springs, straps and a carriage that moves. Strength, control and a surprising amount of sweat. Eight beds, so every one of you gets watched.

    All levels · 50 min
    02

    Mat

You, the floor, and gravity. The original. Harder than it looks, and the foundation for everything on the reformer.

    All levels · 45 min
    03

    Barre

Small movements, big burn. Ballet-adjacent without the ballet. Legs and glutes mostly, with music loud enough to help.

    All levels · 45 min
    04

    Mobility

The class that makes the other classes possible. Hips, spine, shoulders, slowly. Desk workers, runners and anyone over forty: this one first.

    All levels · 40 min

    04The coaches

Three people who will learn your name.

    Rosa

    Head coach · reformer

Fourteen years teaching, former dancer, zero tolerance for a collapsed lower back. Her Tuesday 6am is the hardest hour in Brunswick.

    Tom

    Mobility · mat

Physio by training, which means he can tell you why your hip does that. Patient to a fault. Runs the beginners' course.

    Ayla

    Barre · reformer

Makes playlists people ask for afterwards. Teaches barre like it's a party and reformer like it's an exam. Both are compliments.
